Privacy Policy
Last updated: 09 April 2026
Company Information is a service operated by Matrix Business Advisory Pty Ltd (ABN 66 674 638 192) (we, us, our). We are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it.
We operate companyinfo.com.au, a service that provides access to Australia's Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR). Our customers are primarily Australian businesses and professionals.
1. What information we collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide our service. This includes:
- Account information — name and email address when you register.
- Search identifiers — the ABN, ACN, ARBN or ARSN you search.
- Payment information — processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details. We retain a transaction reference and the amount charged.
- Usage data — pages visited, search history, and timestamps, used to operate your account and detect abuse.
- Device and connection data — IP address, browser type, for security and fraud prevention.
We do not collect sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act (such as health, racial, or biometric data).
2. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Deliver PPSR search reports you have paid for.
- Maintain your account so you can re-download past reports.
- Process payments and issue receipts.
- Administer Pro accounts and apply volume discounts.
- Respond to support enquiries.
- Detect and prevent fraud or misuse.
- Comply with our legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Disclosure of your information
We may disclose your information to:
- Stripe — for payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy applies to information they process.
- Australian Business Register (ABR) and ASIC — your search identifier is submitted to verify an entity and retrieve PPSR data. These are government registers; no personal information about you is disclosed to them.
- Infrastructure providers — hosting and email services used solely to operate the platform, under confidentiality obligations.
- Law enforcement or regulators — where required by law or a valid court order.
We do not transfer your personal information outside Australia except where a service provider (such as Stripe) processes data internationally. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure equivalent privacy protections apply.
4. How long we keep your information
We retain your information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards in case of disputes or legal obligations.
- Reports are stored indefinitely so you can re-download them at any time through your account.
- Transaction records are kept for seven years to satisfy tax and financial record-keeping requirements.
- Account data is deleted or de-identified within 30 days of a confirmed account deletion request, subject to the above retention requirements.
5. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. These measures include encrypted data transmission (TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews.
No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at hello@companyinfo.com.au.
6. Cookies and tracking
We use session cookies necessary for the platform to function (authentication, CSRF protection). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Usage analytics, if any, are conducted using tools that do not identify you personally.
7. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act and the APPs, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete.
- Request deletion of your account and personal information (subject to our legal retention obligations).
To exercise these rights, email us at hello@companyinfo.com.au. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us first so we can attempt to resolve the matter. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email to registered account holders. The date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last updated. Continued use of the service after changes are notified constitutes acceptance.
